So, I have been working/thinking through my project and my presentation so much that I forgot to post on this thing. As addicting as it can be, it's easy to forget as well. It's kinda weird because after reading Free Culture last summer for the class and considering that what I am doing is personal (I don't plan on selling it, etc.) I'm kinda chucking that out the window and the rules--well I don't think about them much. I do LOVE the text though and I think that his message is important--especially since the whole idea of remixing in our culture is one that goes beyond computer/digital technologies, yet it is the focus of much attention. I wonder why that is? We sort of talked about today in Susan's class the idea that in a capitalist society, the free usage of intellectual property is more or less thwarted because of copyright and all of that but Lessig establishes in his text that everything has been based on something. What would happen if someone initially had put a copyright protection sort of thing on actions, in and of themselves, and we were (for example) forbidden to write any type of work at all because the action of writing created problems with copyright? I realize that may seem extreme, but it's something that I am thinking about.
My project itself is a lot of fun. I think that I am going to focus on the presentation part of it later today, as I "interview" myself with a couple of questions about the conception of the project and all of that. I am sure I'll piece them together. I also hope to have something to share for class (whether it be a presentation draft or a revision of Fifteen Minutes--or maybe both. We'll see) but the project itself is going rather swimmingly...and I am hoping to have between 3 and 6 different segments--depending on how much time allows, but this also may be something that I think about continuing on for me later. We'll see.
Anyway, those are my thoughts right now about the readings and my project. ttyl
